A Brief About Different Post Office Jobs
Post office is a very reliable employer and offers good compensation to its full time employees. Employees also enjoy other facilities like health insurance and retirement funds. Here are some different types of jobs available at post office:
Mail carrier
There are so many mail carriers in a post office to deliver mails to the area the post office serves. Persons delivering the mails must wear proper uniform and must have identity card with them. They deliver packages and letters and get the receipt signed as required. They can also collect postage due amount from customers. Salary of these people is around rupees 15000 per month in India.
Postal clerk
Postal clerks work on different counters of post office. They sell mail stamps, post cards and other post office supplies. They are also responsible to answer customers’ questions such as how much time a mail will take to reach its destination, etc. They also insure and register mail and also give post office boxes on rent. Collecting carriers’ package receipt and arranging them in a file is also a part of their job.
Mail Handlers:
Larger post offices have automatic mail sorting machines to sort mail for different small branches of post office. These machines are operated by mail handlers and the remaining mails that the machine cannot read are sorted manually by them. Then these people put sorted mails in different bags and load it to post office trucks to distribute them to area post offices. They need to operate heavy equipments like hand trucks and electric vehicles in daily operation of their job.
Post master:
Postmaster supervises all the operations of a unit and workers. It is the highest post at the post office.
