Air Pollution in India
Air pollution in India is growing very fast and becoming a big problem for the whole world. Increasing population and economic development are putting so much strain on the environment and natural resources of the country. Air pollution is one of the most serious problems that our planet is facing with. According to research, India is among the top ten worst climate polluters of the world.
According to world health organization, around 2 million people die because of air pollution every year. Smoke coming out of vehicles, industries, thermal power plants and refineries is major reason of air pollution.
Leakage of chlorine gas in Mumbai on July 14 2010 is the latest example of industrial pollution in India. This has injured so many people and 76 people got hospitalized after this.
India is using coal for most of the power generation. Energy need of more than half of the country is supplied by coal and also use for electricity generation. Some of the India’s coal plants are old and are not using modern pollution control techniques.
Emission from vehicles is producing 70% of the air pollution. Air pollution is at peak in big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai. Bangalore is titled as asthma capital of the city. That means so many people in Bangalore are suffering from respiratory problems and air pollution is the main cause of these problems. Construction work is also going on in these cities so dust from construction debris also cause air pollution.
You can see the effect of air pollution on the most famous Taj Mahal which is slowly getting yellow in color. Birds and animals are also getting affected by air pollution. So, we have to take measures to protect our environment, historical monuments and human beings and other organisms.
This can only be possible by combine efforts of government and people.
