The term “Mobile Phone” is not a new to us and is one of those things which we don’t forget to carry wherever we go. Although it is considered as a product of 21^st century it is not so. We can trace it’s origin to the early days when Alexander Graham Bell invented a machine which could carry messages from one end to the other by manually switching of networks.

In the year 1908 Nathan Stubblefield of US applied for a patent for something called as “cave radio” which was a wireless system. In Europe this system was used for the first time in 1926 in a first class passenger train and during the same time it was introduced in passenger airplanes for air traffic safety. This wireless system was then widely used during World War II by the German Tanks. But during all this while trained personnel only got to use this mechanism.

In year 1947 the engineers of Bell Lab proposed the first hexagonal cells for mobile phones in vehicles. But the actual credit of handheld mobile phones in non-vehicle set up should be given to Dr. Martin Cooper of Motorola who invented such system in the 1947.

The First generation of mobile phones was different from its previous systems as it could be used in various cell sites, so people could carry on with conversations as they travelled through various sites. The first computerized cellular network was launched by NTT in Japan in1979; this network could then cover the whole population of Tokyo. The next launch of first generation (1G) phones by NMT was done in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland in 1981. NMT was also the first company to have introduced the international roaming facility.

Each of us can vouch that friends are forever and always there when one is in need. I am sure this is a tried and tested statement for most people. Friends are not born of a blood relation but they become thicker than that. In earlier times because there were many siblings, two of them always got along with each other much more than the rest of them. So a need for a friendship bond was never felt and that is exactly why a statement was coined “blood is thicker than water”. However with families now becoming smaller and moving away from each other for better job opportunities, the need to attach oneself emotionally to that one individual – a friend, has caught on.

One has the option of going to a wide range of travel agents who due to increasing competition offer either pre-designed packages or customized packages suiting all budget types. Since these travel agents have tie ups with airlines, railways and hotels, they offer total travel solutions.

Other services offered by these travel agents are booking only the travel tickets but not hotel stay. This however is done at nominal service charges. Some Travel Agents also offer Indian railway reservation for various trains.

A few larger travel agents have even opened up lounge offices which cater to the elite class of travel freaks.

The necessity of these travel agents is more in India as compared to the options overseas because the dealings of various service providers are still not so transparent that a website of a particular hotel can be trusted blindly basis its presentation. Going through registered travel agents is a safer, trusted option.

To formalize and regulate the travel industry in India a group of twelve leading travel agents formed the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) in 1951. The formation of this association has helped make travel in India ethical and professional.

But with each decade even travel is evolving and it wouldn’t be long when we will be able to handle all our travel requirements independently. So be it!!

Every country has its own mother tongue. India’s mother tongue is Hindi but speaking English is essential here too. Even though only UK, USA, Ireland and Canada are considered as the English speaking countries, English as a language is now universally accepted across borders and has now even become a fashion statement. The English speaking accent however differs from country to country.

In India also we can sense the importance of knowing how to speak and understand English even if written English is not known. English however became more “acceptable” and the “in” thing in India with the common Indian more after India’s independence in 1947. Our freedom fighters however had all studied abroad so they were very proficient in this language even before our Independence.

Many courses have come up where an individual is taught how to speak, understand, read and write English. Proficiency is assured at each of these institutes but the program content of each of these differs. Perfection and expressions however come later and with practice. Now with the onset of online accessibility, some institutes even offer online English teaching courses but speaking the language can only be well learnt through regular courses.

The trick in being a good orator is to first of all speak less or when asked to speak because only then do people listen. Anyone who goes on talking is not respected even for her/his wisdom words. Also one should speak short sentences, pause between words and speak slowly as that also brings about an expression in the speech. With practice words keep getting added to ones mental vocabulary list either through words spoken by others or words read across various places.
