Dedicated Hosting – How to Choose a Dedicated Host?
If you own a large business website or website that ha s heavy traffic, definitely dedicated hosting is a right choice. Dedicated hosting is just like having your own server paying a certain rental. Dedicated hosting is more expensive when compared to other types of hosting and hence must be well planned before actually going for it. Here is some information on how to choose a dedicated server.
Managed and Unmanaged Hosting
Dedicated hosting is of two types managed hosting and unmanaged hosting. In managed hosting almost everything except the website and its content is being handled by the hosting company. In unmanaged hosting, you will be given web server, operating system, and hardware and internet connection. Managed hosting is definitely more costly but is useful when you do not have any resource to manage the server.
Hardware Requirements
Choose the hardware as per your websites requirements. The memory requirement for the servers is a minimum of 512 MB to be able to load pages in reasonable time. For servers which have heavy server side programming or heavy traffic, the memory requirement may go up from 1024 to 2048 MB. The processor speed recommended is 2 to 2.4 Ghz. Intel processors are known for less heat emission and hence are the best choice. The hard drive recommended is 18 GB SCSI or a 40 GB 7200-RPM IDE drive.
Bandwidth Requirement
Depending on your requirements of data transfer, choose a proper bandwidth for your server. There are different plans available for choosing the bandwidth. Choose the one appropriate for your usage.
Hosting Company
Before buying a dedicated hosting, make enough research about the hosting company. Choose the company which is reliable. Make sure it offers enough support when necessary. Seeking reviews from different people who are using the web hosting service may be beneficial.
