The ghazals were earlier written in Arabic where as now they are written in various languages, for example, in Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Kashmiri, and Kurdish.

Ghazal is popular now in western countries because of the fusion of Indian classical music with the western music hence gazals are now been written in English language also. Ghazal songs are generally sung in Hindi and Urdu and popular ghazal singers are from India and Pakistan.These are sung in various forms and styles like khayaal, thumri, raga and taala as well as various other classical styles. The famous ghazal singers from Pakistan who has millions of admirers worldwide are Begum Akhtar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali and Farida Khanumetc.
Urdu Ghazals have found their way into many Hindi films and music and some of the popular hindi fim ghazals are from films like Umraoo jaan, sarfarosh and Arth etc.Major popular Indian gazal singers are Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas, Ghulam Ali, Manhar udhas etc. who release their albums annually, which can hear and be downloaded from different websites available on the internet..
