Indian Fashion
Diverse country – diverse culture – diverse fashion – this is what our country is all about!! We have always welcomed diversity with open arms, be it people, food or fashion. We even have diverse weather and we are willy-nilly accepting the global warming as well.
Fashion may also be defined as comfort, confidence to carry it off, creativity, innovation and maintaining the acceptable limits within our still somewhat conservative culture.
Indian fashion has come a long way. For females it started off with a five and a half meter cloth draped as a saree for that elegant, feminine look on formal occasions. Indian fashion as casual wear included salwar kameez or churidars. Wedding functions or any other festivities exhibited a wide range of lehnga cholis. But all this was at a very basic level with no experimentation attached with it.
For males however Indian fashion was only about a plain kurta pyjama on casual occasions or rarely embroidered jodhpuri suits and sherwanis on a formal one.
As our society became more open, fashion evolved. A simple blouse with a saree has now moved either to a choli with spaghetti straps, a halter blouse or even a backless one. Indian fashion has also become westernized with embroidered kameez’s being worn with jeans or even skirts. Slacks with long tops can be seen at various college sites. Discotheques also adorn tube tops with jeans which is the impact of modernization in fashion.
For males it has moved to embroidered kurtas with jeans as a casual wear or even embroidered shirts to go with formal pants.
Accessorizing with the outfits is another vital part of fashion in general. Formal Indian-Western outfits are worn with more subtle cosmetic jewelry or now designer silver jewelry. And purely formal Indian outfits are accessorized with heavier jewelry.
Casual wear can be seen with long jute bags hung across the shoulder and small pouch bags can be seen with sarees.
The traditional jootis are now worn with all kinds of outfits as now we even have designer jootis to match with them. Boots are in with short skirts and high heels go with Indian outfits.
Walk with the fashion and you sure will rock!!
