Resume Writing Tips
Job and resume – two un-separable words. When one thinks of a job one automatically starts thinking of making or updating the resume or curriculum vita.
Earlier resumes would appear in a standard format which was used by all applicants. But with the growth in the economy, influx of multinational companies and a plethora of job opportunities, resume writing has now become an art and perfecting it has become a business opportunity for some.
Since hiring in most organizations today is done by the HR department and they obviously receive n-number of applications for one position, your effort should always be to catch the eye of the person scrutinizing your application. So always highlight your areas of strength and how you have an edge over the others.
First only companies had Unique Selling Propositions (USP) but now even individuals do. You need to exhibit that talent in your resume which helps them the organization in identifying your USP and matching it with their philosophy.
Lengthy paragraphed resumes are out and crisp preferably bulleted resumes are in. So to ensure that all the points in your resume have been read through make it crisp and put your points across in bullets. Do not extend your resume beyond 2 pages because a lengthy resume results in missing out on key focus areas.
Relating performance to results is another focus area for organizations during talent search. So if your contributions or ideas have helped in the growth of your previous organization, mention that too in a bulleted form.
The resume should be focused which either identifies your profession in a few words or is a brief summary of your experience. This way the organization will be able to better relate the job advertised with your profile.
These tips are not the only things that one should bear in mind while writing a resume. Some other basic tips while writing a resume are to write in the same font, no typographical errors, printed on A4 size sheets and putting ones work experience before ones educational qualifications.
