Greece music is of amazing diversity due to the different influences of the Eastern and Western cultures of Asia and Europe. There are many musical terms from the Greek language like harmony, melody, tune, choir, orchestra, chromatic, psalm, rhythm etc. Greek music has a variety of music like the contemporary laiko pop or lively nisiotika dancing music and the urban rembetika.

Nisiotika is one of the most distinctive categories of Greek Music and Greek songs, which are light songs, with a gentle rhythm, without the dramatic element of the Cretan or Pontic Music. The simple dance and the catchy tone made them popular with the wider public, although they were created and played mostly in the islands of Cyclades and the Dodecanese.

Some of the recent urban popular songs include the Heptanesian cantatha, Athenian cantatha and rebetika. Most popular of this are the Rembetika which reflects feeling of death, drug addiction, failed love and plight of immigrants. Instruments in all music can be divided into three categories, based on how sound is produced: string, wind, and percussion .Common instruments include, bouzoukis, ouzo-soaked, plate-smashing spins of Zorba and stringed Lyra etc. Bouzouki is the most recognized music instrument, as most foreigners can recognize this oddly sounding but a very charming instrument.

A chief feature of the Greek Songs was the chorus songs that were sung in the Greek plays, weddings, funerals, banquets, etc. Famous Greek Songs are melina merkouri-pote tin kyriaki (never on sunday), viky mosholiou with george zambetas-agapi mou, ta trena pou figan-viky mosholiou, stelios kazandjidis-aponi zoI.Eminent musical prodigies produced in this land include the likes of Manos Hatzidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Rita Abatzi, George Dalaras, Rosa Eskenazi, George Theodorakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Tilak and Markos Vamvakaris to name a few,Alkistis Protopsalti, Socratis Mallamas, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Nikos Assimos, Melina Kana, Eleutheria Arvanitaki and many more.
