Nisiotika is one of the most distinctive categories of Greek Music and Greek songs, which are light songs, with a gentle rhythm, without the dramatic element of the Cretan or Pontic Music. The simple dance and the catchy tone made them popular with the wider public, although they were created and played mostly in the islands of Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
Some of the recent urban popular songs include the Heptanesian cantatha, Athenian cantatha and rebetika.Most popular of this are the Rembetika which reflects feeling of death, drug addiction, failed love and plight of immigrants.
