Thai Songs

Thailand’s music is influenced from several musical cultures of Asia and western countries. Indian, Chinese, European and American musical cultures have also contributed a lot in maintaining the diversity in Thai music. The main types of Thai music are the Muay Thai Fight Music, classical, traditional folk and the rock and pop music.

Muay Thai is a national sport of Thailand as well as a national passion and the music which accompanies this sport is the Muay thai music which is performed by four musicians each playing either one of two kinds of oboe, a pair of Thai drums, or symbols .The classical music is generally performed in orchestras, which use different types of instruments like Khruang sai, Mahori and Piphat, krachap, pichanai, chakhe etc. The use of piphat can be seen more in dragon dance amd the mahori is usually played by female performers.

Traditional Thai folk music can be categorized into Luk thung, mor lam and the kantrum.Luk thung is wildly accepted and fascinates the people around the globe and tends them to prefer this in functions and get-togethers.The theme of this folk genre reflects the hardships of living, loving and working in rural Thailand .Mor lam is very much similar to the luk thung music and is mainly inhabited by Lao population and Kantrum is a dance music mainly played by the Khmer people.

Thai music has borrowed much from western music, most particularly its instruments and there is a growing preference among Thais for a blend of Thai and international styles. The best example of this is Thailand’s famous rock band, Carabao who has created an exciting fusion of classical Thai music with heavy metal. Famous Thai pop singers are Tata Young, Christina Aguilar and Asanee and Tata Young is the first Thai female artist to launch an international album, and is famous throughout Asia. The famous songs have been even translated in English and are available for download on various sites.
